The Russian president met Pezeshkian in Turkmenistan and pledged to do "everything in our power" to end the ongoing war between the US and Iran, despite Russia not being among the official mediators.
Iran's army spokesman said Tehran's forces were prepared to strike first "should circumstances require it," while IRGC officials claimed tighter control of Hormuz, and Washington publicly pondered how much authority Pezeshkian and Araghchi actually wielded.
In his UN General Assembly speech, Iran's president also accused the US and Israel of illegal attacks on civilians as the US delegation walked out. He closed with a direct message to Trump: "Yes they did hit us, but we did not bend the knee."
Tehran's decision-making structures appear gripped by a war of words as conflicting reports emerge on Tuesday about an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the US eases its military pressure.
The talks follow the UAE's suspension of trade and financial dealings with Iran in August and follow the UAE's firm position that trust with Iran "is a mountain to climb" after Iran's attacks on the Gulf countries.
