Mosquitoes thrive after rain, but drought can also alter animal and mosquito behavior and raise disease risk, simulations of Brazil’s 2016–2019 outbreak suggest.
Researchers report July 30 in iScience that three mosquito species preferred different groups of people based on components of body chemistry and skin microbiome. In a study of 119 volunteers, Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus and Culex quinquefasciatus showed distinct attraction patterns, with no one strongly attracting all three species.
