The highlight of the 2026 cinematic calendar for sci-fi fans is almost here. On December 18, the final installment in Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune novels, Dune: Part Three, makes its theatrical debut, joining Avengers: Doomsday in a double-feature debut being lovingly dubbed "Dunesday." The first two Dune movies have been huge critical hits, with both earning prizes at the Academy Awards and being heralded by many as the best sci-fi stories of the decade so far.

The third is expected to follow suit, with star and serial Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet looking to finally earn a Best Actor prize. As Paul Atreides, Chalamet will face the consequences of his power in Dune: Part Three, two decades after seizing control of the Imperium. The film's cast also includes Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Hayt, and many more, with early predictions forecasting an opening global haul of almost $300 million for the threequel.

The fortune of Dune: Part Three, both commercially and critically, will be helped by its legacy, although the iconic reputation of arguably the genre's greatest director didn't help an earlier 2026 sci-fi film to all-out triumph. Instead, Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day opened to fairly mixed reviews, despite starring the likes of Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, and Colin Firth. Although it is far from the genius of the likes of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Disclosure Day does feature plenty to enjoy, and this week you can do some from a new location. Starting October 9, Disclosure Day will be available to stream on Peacock.

How Much Did 'Disclosure Day' Make at the Box Office?

Over 40 years ago, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial earned almost $800 million at the global box office, against a budget of just $10.5 million. Disclosure Day was far from matching this success, despite benefiting from a 44-year increase in theatrical ticket sales. In total, Spielberg's latest made just under $250 million worldwide, against a reported budget of $115 million, split between $116 million in domestic revenue and a further $127 million from overseas markets.
