A film noir classic that inspired all your favorite serial killer movies and shows, from David Fincher's Mindhunter to the Swedish sensation The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is streaming for free for a whole new generation to discover. The movie is among the nearly 1,000 titles already available on JustWatch TV, a platform that's currently in beta phase but will be launched in earnest this October. Nearly 100 years old, the classic film follows a cat-and-mouse chase between a serial killer who targets children and the investigator tasked with tracking him down.

The movie was released in 1931 and was directed by the great Fritz Lang, the maverick filmmaker behind the sci-fi classic Metropolis. It proved to be hugely influential on the film noir genre, which would become a Hollywood staple for the next few years, during and after World War II. It was produced during the rise of the Nazis in Germany, and was Lang's first sound film. Notably, it used "In the Hall of the Mountain King" as a recurring musical motif; the track was famously used in the boat-race sequence in Fincher's The Social Network. That said, Lang's influence on Fincher can be more clearly felt in the series Mindhunter, and the films such as Zodiac and Se7en.
