2026 has been a somewhat quiet year for Mark Wahlberg, especially compared to other years when he’s starred in several of the biggest action blockbusters in theaters and on streaming. Just a few weeks ago, Wahlberg’s second movie of 2026, By Any Means, hit theaters, but despite the combined star power of Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the film is struggling to get off the ground at the box office. Wahlberg began the year by teaming up with Paul Walter Hauser for the Prime Video action comedy, Balls Up, which spent weeks in the top 10 despite polarizing reviews. 2025 saw Wahlberg star in several big movies including a sequel to The Family Plan, which was added to Apple TV near the end of last year. There are rumors that a third movie is in the works, but nothing concrete has been announced.
Mark Wahlberg has starred in dozens of iconic crime thrillers and pure action movies over the years, but one that you may have missed in theaters is 2 Guns. Co-starring two-time Oscar-winner Denzel Washington, 2 Guns is the perfect mash-up of Sicario and Lethal Weapon, as it centers around a hilarious duo who are operating in a war against Mexican drug cartels at the U.S. border. For the last few months, 2 Guns has found a streaming home on Netflix, but this won’t be the case for much longer. The streamer announced recently that the last day to watch 2 Guns will be at the end of this month on September 30. A new streaming home for the film has not yet been announced.
What Is ‘2 Guns’ About?
The official synopsis for 2 Guns, which sits at scores of 64% from critics and 66% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows:
“For the past year, DEA agent Bobby Trench and U.S. Navy intelligence officer Marcus Stigman have been working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate. The twist: Neither man knows that the other is an undercover agent. When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, the men are disavowed by their superiors. Trench and Stigman must go on the run lest they wind up in jail or in a grave.”
2 Guns was directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who also recently directed the Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton-led Netflix blockbuster, Apex.
