For all his maverick originality, Kevin Costner can certainly lean into Hollywood trends when he wants to. A few years ago, he and his Man of Steel co-star Diane Lane appeared together in a neo-Western thriller titled Let Him Go, seemingly designed to capitalize on the popularity of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone. Around a decade earlier, after the success of the action thriller Taken, Costner headlined his own alternative. That movie is currently streaming in the United States on Starz, but not for much longer.

Taken was one of the most unexpected hits of the 2000s, grossing more than $225 million worldwide and transforming Liam Neeson into an action star. Neeson continues to enjoy that film's success, but for several years after Taken's release, it seemed like every middle-aged actor in Hollywood wanted to ride its coattails. Sean Penn starred in The Gunman; John Travolta did From Paris with Love; Denzel Washington headlined three Equalizer movies; more recently, Bob Odenkirk has starred in two Nobody films and the action thriller Normal. Costner's spin on the Taken template shouldn't be confused with the similarly titled The Next Three Days, starring Russell Crowe.
