Wars are bad for your health. That is a universally accepted fact. Armed conflicts between nations and groups have raged since time began, with each one holding its fair share of consequences for those left behind and those coming into the world. However, none reshaped the global order quite like World War II. Just over 81 years ago, since the last gun echoed in that conflict, humanity's largest and most devastating conflict continues to inspire countless war movies.

While the most successful movie of 2026, according to the box office at least, has been superhero-focused Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with the new historical epic, The Odyssey, coming in a close second. Despite having the majority of its key players long passed from this world, World War II movies continue to showcase their ability to pull numbers, with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer raking in approximately $976 million worldwide. Other notable mentions include Nolan's 2017 war film Dunkirk, Michael Bay's romance-war spectacle, Pearl Harbor, and Stephen Spielberg's all-time classic, Saving Private Ryan.

However, box office performance is not always a reliable measure of a film's quality. 2026, for instance, has delivered several excellent films, some of which have achieved only modest box office returns. Pressure, the beloved WWII movie set in the 72 hours before D-Day, falls into this category. The movie stars Brendan Fraser as Dwight D. Eisenhower and Andrew Scott as meteorologist James Stagg and grossed around $29 million after its theatrical run. Now, the critically acclaimed Focus Features historical drama has locked in its Netflix streaming debut for late November, as it arrives on the platform in the US on November 30, 2026.

What Is ‘Pressure’ About?

With scores of 89% from critics and 95% from audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Pressure tells of the mental fortitude, depth, and thought that went into winning WWII. The site's critics' consensus reads, "Finding a fresh angle on one of the most dramatized days in military history, Pressure is a brainy war film that derives most of its thrills from Andrew Scott's simmering performance." Besides Fraser and Scott, the film also stars Kerry Condon, Chris Messina, Tamsin Topoloski, and Damian Lewis, all of whom came together to give what felt like an authentic depiction of what happened behind closed doors leading up to D-Day. Directed by Anthony Maras and based on the stage play by David Haig, the official synopsis for Pressure reads:

“In the tense 72 hours before D-Day, and with the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, PRESSURE follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg as they face an impossible choice — launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether.”
