Despite a massive 83% decline this past weekend, Avengers: Endgame retained a spot in the top 10 on the domestic box office list and achieved what it had set out to do. The highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of all time is now also the highest-grossing movie in global box-office history. This is the second time the film has earned this title, having overtaken the original Avatar on both occasions. Endgame finished its original run as the highest-grossing hit ever made, but it lost the top spot when Avatar was re-released in 2022. Endgame itself is currently enjoying a major re-release ahead of its sequel, Avengers: Doomsday, which is slated for release this December.
In the seven years since Endgame's record-breaking box-office run, the MCU has delivered a string of underperformers such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Thunderbolts*. Earlier this year, the franchise appeared to bounce back with the blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which broke Endgame's record for the biggest domestic debut of all time and eventually overtook it on the all-time domestic charts as well. With roughly $895 million in the bank so far, Endgame is set to join Brand New Day and Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens as the only three movies to have grossed more than $900 million domestically.
Here's How Much 'Avengers: Endgame' Has Grossed at the Box Office
Directed by the Russo Brothers, who are also returning to helm Doomsday, Endgame's re-release has yielded more than $120 million worldwide in 10 days. This has pushed the film's cumulative global haul to $2.925 billion, which puts it ahead of Avatar's $2.923 billion lifetime haul. Endgame remains a critical benchmark for the MCU, with a "Certified Fresh" 94% critics' score and a "Verified Hot" 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website's consensus reads, "Exciting, entertaining, and emotionally impactful, Avengers: Endgame does whatever it takes to deliver a satisfying finale to Marvel's epic Infinity Saga."
