In a string of action titles headlined by Liam Neeson following the success of Taken, one movie has managed to stand out from the rest. Released in 2012, the film in question is The Grey, directed by Joe Carnahan. It follows Neeson's character, a private security contractor working for an oil company in Alaska, who must survive in the wilderness after an accident leaves him stranded. The Grey was a critical and commercial success, grossing more than $80 million against a reported $25 million budget, and earning a "Certified Fresh" 80% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The movie has proven to have a long life thanks to its popularity on streaming, and it makes sense that a companion piece from 1997 is turning out to be a must-watch for fans.
The earlier film was directed by Lee Tamahori, best known for the James Bond film Die Another Day. It featured Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin as two characters who must survive in the Alaskan wilderness while being chased by a Kodiak bear. Fans will remember that Neeson's character in The Grey had to fight off a pack of wolves, in addition to increasing infighting among his group of survivors.
