With murder mysteries having had a resurgence in recent years thanks to Rian Johnson's Knives Out trilogy and several other hits, there has been a renewed attention on the work of Agatha Christie. She is widely considered the greatest writer that the genre has ever seen, and her books continue to inspire films and shows to this day. While the Knives Out movies aren't direct adaptations, Johnson has made his love for Christie's wickedly plotted stories clear. An official Christie adaptation, Agatha Christie's Seven Dials, was released earlier this year. Meanwhile, a new series revolving around her most famous creation, the detective Hercule Poirot, is also in the works.

Fans can gear up for the series by rewatching the recent trilogy of theatrical movies directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, or by revisiting the classic television series in which Poirot was played by David Suchet. They may also check out a film adaptation of arguably Christie's best-known book, a book that didn't feature Poirot at all. It was published in 1939, with the film adaptation following in 1945. Directed by René Clair, the movie was the first of many adaptations of Christie's classic novel. The latest adaptation was a television limited series released in 2015 and starring Sam Neill, Douglas Booth, Charles Dance, Miranda Richardson, and others.
